Lesson1: What is Blogging All About

July 1st, 2010

I was at the bus stop waiting for my bus which was delayed due to heavy rains and bad climate. After a while, I got an idea to check out something. I stood up from my seat, walked between the other people who were also waiting for the same bus. I took out my ipod and asked the people there, “What do you all think, how good this product is?”. I got different answers from many of them; first one said, “It has a good clear sound, but is very low in volume”; second said, “The sound is very good and the volume is also sufficient for me”; third said, “Battery life is very short, I had to recharge it almost daily”; fourth said, “Placement of buttons is not good, company should redesign it” and similarly most of them had different views about that ipod.

From the above incidence, I just wanted to tell you that each person has his own view about each and everything whether he knows about it or not, and has his own style of expressing it. Many people say that period of blogging is over now, but I don’t think so. If you have your vision to elaborate things and you can speak for those, then you can have a successful blog. It takes time to catch up and gather people to explore what you say, but its not that much tough.

Everyone is blessed with a mind that has certain capabilities of doing things variably. Some people do well in service sector, some in business, and few are built differently and what they do can’t be phrased. It all points to one thing that if you are happy in what you are doing, you will surely achieve for what you are working for but still conditions apply in this competitive world of now. It’s not the time now that only few people have smarter mind and they just make use of it to make millions. Now if we want to get ahead, we need to compete with the smart minds which now days count in millions. If you are losing confidence by reading this, then don’t ever try to think about blogs.

I have strong feelings for writing blogs, that’s why you are reading this article. I had spent 3 years into learning and working with blogs and so just wanted to share my knowledge with all the guys who are have interest in presenting their views through their blogs. It’s a wonderful feeling to write about what you know because it will be always unique in its way.

Blogs are personal pages that express views on some particular niche (topic, can be any field of interest) through commentary, product details or event descriptions etc. It is usually maintained by an individual or also if the blog is covering a vast topic, it could be maintained by a group of individuals handling certain parts of that topic.

Lesson 2: Why You Chose Blogging

June 30th, 2010

Why you chose blogging?

Before you make your mind to start blogging, you should think a lot about it. There are a few questions to be answered to yourself before you begin:

1) Do you have time?

Time is the most crucial element for great blogs. You must have time so that you can dedicate yourself to it. Lack of time will often end you up with short and incomplete articles which gives your blog a poor look. There are tasks other then just writing; you have to check site stats, traffic, working keywords, have to visit other blogs of same niche, create network in social networking sites and much more. So, a plenty of time is needed to hit success.

2) Do you have patience?

Alexa rank increases whenever content is added to the site. It’s an indirect process but it’s true. The more the content, the more your blog will get ahead. Here by patience I mean that if you rush to feed your website with more and more content in a short span of time, then you might be feeding actually very boring articles. It’s ok that your content is new to the search engines, but still it has to be finally read by a visitor. If the visitor doesn’t like your content, why would he be visiting again? So patience gives you a long term hold while rushing more and more content will give you boost and then a fall too.

3)  Can you create interesting content that can hold people?

Try writing articles of minimum 300 words length; check them; then read the full article. Now, think, was that an interesting content?  Get it read by few of your friends who have the same interest of yours. Check his review and then work on your article. Doing this will probably strengthen your articles, if you are dedicated to it. And if you still end up with boring articles, you should stop writing; why waste time.

4) Is money the thing for you to start blog?

It’s ok if money is the thing for which you started blogging. Many people do it for this, even me also. But, money should not only be the reason to start blogging, you should have an interest on for what you are writing. If you have in depth knowledge of the niche, you will probably run a successful blog. But if you just hurry up and rush yourself for money, then this can be the reason for failure also. Remember, quality and time, when both are combined make precious things.

If the above things are all in favor of you, then you why don’t you just begin!!!

Lesson 3: Independent Blogs Vs Dependent Blogs

June 29th, 2010

Hosting your valuable content on some other site is I don’t guess the right thing. You are dedicating your valuable time on researching and writing articles, and you place them to other a network where the generated revenue gets shared among the host and you. What if you had a dedicated site for your articles? The whole revenue generated will be in your pocket, and if you are creating good articles, then the popularity will also be gained by your blog only. You only have to work a bit hard in the beginning to gain traffic.
People are generally inclined faster to “Free’ things rather then those which cost something. But think about the logic, free things are available to everyone, so you are making your start a common thing. Thousands of people join Blogger daily and in those thousand, 90% leave it on the very first day. So the impression is that, lots of people joining in because it’s free, and lots of people drop too because they just did it for fun.
These free blogging platforms are good when you want to test your skills. New blogger should try these platforms when they are planning out for blogging. If you are getting enough response to your articles, then you may take blogging to next step and start with your personal domain.
Independent Blog means that you have your own domain name and space to put your presence on web whereas Dependent Blog means that you are going to use a space which is hosted by somebody else and with his domain name. In case of dependent blogs, the readymade sites are generally on higher ranks because they are already getting content from many guys all over so they just have to dedicate the time in doing SEO for their site. In case of independent blogs, the SEO, content building and other activities are all to be controlled by you. So it’s kind of tough thing, but going in right direction is worth the wait.

Lesson 4: Choosing the Best Topic Blog

June 28th, 2010

Choosing a correct niche is only a one time process for your blog. If you chose a wrong niche, you will end up with a good waste of time. Sit back on your bed with a free mind. Think about your hobbies, your likings or anything which you love to do. Write them on a paper in a sequence. Explore the topics one by one with their sub-topics. After this step, think about the content you can write for them and ask yourself; Is the topic vast enough?; Will you be able to cover the whole topic?; What will be the sources of information?; Does that information keeps on updated frequently?. These are the few questions that you should answer yourself before finalizing a niche for your blog.
After doing the above process, surf on the web and have a look on the blogs that you are going to compete. It is sure that you will find that there are already some great blogs that are covering your niche. But don’t be nervous about that, read there content and think of what you can cover extra, or think about what you could have written about it. If you are writing differently with some extra coverage of what others are providing, you will get the visitors. It’s gonna take time but it will pay you a lot more after gaining the traffic.
There are topics that only live for current but not for future, whereas few topics are like they live for now and for future too, and that content is called lifetime. Select current topics niche only if you have source to keep you up to date else incomplete information is never liked by anyone. Lifetime blogs if written correctly in visitor friendly language can get a lot of hits now and also in future. Lifetime content is generally vast to cover and the articles particularly lengthy. So the content will take time to get ready, but will stick the user to it if its written with quality. Quality plus quantity is certainly a masterpiece and it’s a fact in blogging.
